If you want to be a better version of yourself in 2023 and reach your potential, don't set resolutions. Improve your actions, inactions, and mindset. While everyone else is rushing to make resolutions that they are unsure of or that leave little room for error, you can rise above the rest by focusing on the following 5 tips:
#1 - do not set resolutions
Resolutions don't work as well as we'd like them to because we often forget what our original intention was or we set the bar too high and become overwhelmed when we don't reach our objectives. "The estimate is that less than 10% of New Year's resolutions are actually achieved"(The Science of Why New Year’s Resolutions Don’t Work, 2022)
Consciously and honestly reflect on the first and last six months of the previous year—what you accomplished, your failures, and where you can improve. Reflecting provides an overview of yourself and allows you to set achievable goals for the future.
#2 - Remain consistent
Practice being more consistent. Maintain consistency in your actions and focus on your ultimate goal or achievement.

#3 - how to reach your potential
In order to reach your potential, you need to take action. Writing helps you declutter your mind and should thus become your go-to. Write down your plans for the year and give them meaning, i.e., personalised goals. Along those lines, write how you intend to achieve your goals (and ultimate dream) and what behaviours you need to begin practising to get there. This is crucial.
A year is a long time, so setting overly ambitious goals can lead to increased stress and, ultimately, disappointment and inaction if you fail to change or achieve your goals. Instead (as has been stated numerous times), focus on SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely goals.
Continuing from the previous point, concentrate on specificity. In other words, be specific about your objectives. When and how will you define success? Setting a goal keeps you accountable.
Concentrate on the advantages of achieving your goals and how doing so will improve your life.
Set less problematic and more positive goals. So, for instance, instead of simply wishing to lose weight, try to lead a healthier lifestyle by taking a walk each morning.
"Failure does not define you; it inspires you"
#4 - prepare for setbacks & reward yourself
Failure does not define you; it inspires you. One of the most beneficial things you can do is prepare for failure. It reduces surprises if things don't go as planned and provides comfort in what could be an uncomfortable and strenuous situation.
Life is all about balance. So take some time to celebrate your accomplishments along the way. Often overlooked but important.
#5 - work with a coach
Work with a coach who is a good fit for you and your goals. Working with a coach who understands your vision and helps you stay accountable and focused is essential. A coach can also help you see things from a new perspective and provide personalized insights and ideas. Finally, working with a coach can boost your confidence and ability to achieve your goals.
So, the next time you hear someone mention resolutions, rise above it and follow the tips above for true change and transformation. But don't wait until then to get started. Put your plan into action, and let's make 2023 and beyond your year.
