When you think of personal development, a life coach, mindset shifts, and motivation, perfection often comes to mind.
All the above terms are empowering. However, these words are often closely associated with perfection. We can't always experience growth, always develop or be motivated. We're not perfect.
With that said, let's talk about perfection.
Overcoming the perfection pitfall in personal growth
In the personal growth world, we often chase becoming the hypothetical "best version of ourselves." This pursuit of perfection can leave us feeling frustrated and burnt out, robbing us of present contentment.
I used to constantly critique myself for not being efficient, disciplined, or achieving enough - compared to others. I had to learn that sustainable growth comes from accepting imperfection - understanding that progress gets messy but is beautiful.
"Your potential is continuously expanding in unique ways" – Oliver Bukasa
I began reframing. I reframed my mindset around “Perfectly Imperfect Progress.” Simply put, small wins became milestones demonstrating my potential unfolding. Setbacks evolved into teachers rather than failures.
Your potential has no set-path
So the next time you stumble, avoid spiralling into shame. Before getting derailed, ask what lessons this setback holds and how can you pivot in a positive direction? Use each challenge as 'data' to highlight your next step.
The journey of self-improvement has no fixed endpoint or template.
Your potential is continuously expanding in unique ways.
As we head into a new year, I challenge you to redefine success on your ever-changing terms.
Brace yourself for the ups, downs and in-betweens but ultimately; Be your limitless potential.
Until next time,
Oliver
